Roofing Services

How do I know which type of roof is the best choice for my home?

Each home is different, just like the needs of the homeowners. We can help you choose the best roofing material and roof style for your home, budget, and unique wishes.

Should I replace my roof even if it's not leaking?

Your roof doesn't need to start leaking to show it needs replacing. It is better to replace the roof if there is extensive damage. For example, if the roof starts sagging or has a few shingles missing, it could be time to replace it. The shingles protect your decking and gutter from harsh weather elements, like wind and humidity. If shingles are missing, your roof is more exposed to the elements, eventually leading to roof failure.

How often does a roof need to be replaced?

The longevity of your roof will depend on materials used, its installation and ventilation so it's difficult to give a straight answer. Typically, a solid and well-constructed roof will last between 12-15 years. Depending on the quality and type of shingles you chose and the underlayment of your roof, that number can go up to 30 or more.

How much does a new roof cost?

A replacement roof is a big investment, and giving a quote without examining your unique situation would not be in our customers' best interest.

What is the best time to replace a roof?

While there is no official "roofing season" and roofers work all year round, summer and fall are usually busier months for most roofing contractors. Factors like snow, rain, ice, and sleet can impact how quickly roofers can safely and effectively get your roof finished, which is why dryer, warmer months are when most people opt to get their roofs replaced. However, replacing your roof in the winter or spring could result in a quicker install due to more availability and less demand.

Siding Services

Reasons for re-siding your home

New siding will provide curb appeal, rejuvenate an older home, give it a completely new look, and significantly reduce cost for home upkeep and maintenance. It will protect your home from the elements and help reduce energy costs.

How can I tell if my current siding needs to be replaced?

Signs of siding that is beginning to go bad include things like fading, chalking, separation at the seams, warping, and moisture appearing on the inside of your home.

Does siding installation affect the interior of the home?

Sometimes installing the new siding may cause things to rattle and shake indoors, which may shift some pictures on your walls..

Is all the old siding removed before installation begins?

Only as much siding as can be replaced in a reasonable amount of time should be removed from the home during the installation process. This way, if the job needs to be continued over several days, your home is not left bare to the elements.

Does K&C install seamless eavestroughs?

Yes we do, including gutters, downspouts and leafguards.

Can siding be installed in the winter?

Yes, siding can be installed year-round.

Fascia & Soffits

What is a Soffit?

For properties with overhanging eaves or rafters, the soffit would be the horizontal materials fitted right underneath it.

Typically made from painted wood, vinyl or aluminum materials, their main functions are to a) circulate air within the attic space while b) simultaneously protecting the rafters from birds, bugs, animals and the elements.

Positioned just below the fascia to give the roof a "finished" appearance, the vented/perforated soffit also helps to prevent moisture buildup by allowing cool, dry air to enter the attic space and warm, moist air to escape.

Do all properties require Soffits?

No. As soffits are designed to "cap off", the exposed areas of overhanging eavestrough, only properties where the eaves or rafters extend past the siding walls will require soffits.

Why would I want to replace my Soffits?

From age and deterioration to an update in style, there are a number of reasons you may want to replace your soffit and fascia for energy-efficient upgrades.

What is Fascia?

Fascia boards (also referred to as "transition trim") are the flat, horizontal panels that run along the edge of your roof's overhang.

Located above the soffit and between the home and roofline, the fascia boards not only gives your roof a "finished" aesthetic, but they also provide a platform for your eavestrough or rain gutters to anchor to.

Typically made from painted wood, aluminum or vinyl materials, these fascia panels play an important role in protecting the rafters, supporting the roofing shingles and preventing the risk of moisture from entering the attic.

How often should Fascia be replaced?

There is no fixed timetable for replacing a fascia or soffit. A fascia board can last for many years. The materials and level of care determine longevity. Look for signs like flaking paint, pests, cracks, etc. as indications fascia boards should be replaced.

What is the lifespan of a Fascia board?

The lifespan of the fascia board you install depends on multiple factors such as the materials, the installation process and maintenance. If you select a wooden soffit, it's more susceptible to moisture, insect infiltration, and mold growth. Vinyl on the other hand is prone to sun damage. Aluminum promises excellent durability, fire resistance, and amazing versatility. Even if aluminum is more expensive than other materials, it is low-maintenance and will remain intact for years. For maintaining fascia boards, repaint them occasionally and keep them as dry as possible.
